Background Trump’s plot to smear the DOJ, the FBI and Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is in full swing. Last week we were on alert that Trump was on the verge of firing Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein – Mueller’s boss. While he has backed off for now, we’ve learned that Trump has, time and again, considered firing Mueller and now Rosenstein. Two bipartisan proposals that would protect Mueller have been consolidated and are moving forward in the House and Senate. The Senate is taking the lead and a Senate Judiciary Committee markup expected on Thursday. It seems inevitable that Trump will move against Mueller and his investigation.
