October 13, 2017 The Call – #PuertoRicoReliefNOW #HelpPuertoRico The situation in Puerto Rico is dire, with more than 80% still without power and most infrastructure destroyed. Puerto Rico’s health care system has been overwhelmed, with the sick in mortal peril from lack of power and medicines. Much of the island still has no running water. Residents are also facing a serious food shortage. In the midst of such dire reports, Trump tweeted threats to abandon the Puerto Rico recovery effort on Thursday. Pressed by Democrats, the House passed H.R.4008, a fast track emergency funding package (which includes aid to the U.S. Virgin Islands), and the measure now goes to the Senate. The slow and inadequate action by the Trump administration, compounded by the Trump’s threats to abandon the recovery effort, are shocking. Puerto Ricans are our fellow U.S. citizens and we must respond to their terrible circumstances as we did with people in Texas and Florida. Your Action Call your Senators and urge them to immediately act on a Senate version of H.R.4008 to provide relief funds to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Talking Points
