Daily Call To Action: November 27th, 2017

November 26, 2017 The Call – #TrumpTaxScam #GOPTaxScam House Republicans have passed tax legislation and the Senate now is considering a bill which a bipartisan analysis projects would immediately raise taxes for almost 14 million middle income Americans. The proposed Senate plan would permanently reduce the corporate tax rate but allow cuts for households and individuals to expire. To help fund tax cuts, Republicans have added a provision to their tax bill that would repeal the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate, causing premiums for all to rise and 13 million fewer people to have health insurance within a decade. The Senate proposal faces an uncertain future given the GOP’s narrow 52-to-48 majority in the Senate, and the fact that the tax overhaul can add no more than $1.5 trillion to federal deficits over a decade. The CBO projects the current bill would add $1.7 trillion to the deficit. Furthermore, the CBO projects that a re-write of the bill that would comply with deficit rules would ultimately be financed by gutting crucial programs, including Medicare. In sum, GOP tax reform will add more than one trillion dollars to the deficit, give the majority of benefits to corporations and the rich, gut the ACA and programs like Medicare, and will leave thirteen million people without healthcare. Indivisible is sponsoring a National Day of Action Against Trump Tax Scam on Monday to oppose the GOP tax scam. Check if there is an event near you that you are able to attend. Your Action Call your Senators and urge them to oppose the GOP tax plan, including repeal of the ACA’s individual mandate. Talking Points
