Daily Call to Action: November 10th, 2017

November 9, 2017 The Call – Georgia Secretary of State Recall Petition In Georgia, the Secretary of State is responsible for “the administration of secure, accessible, and fair elections.” This responsibility is not a suggestion – it is the fundamental job description. Voters should expect their votes to count and for their information to be handled with integrity. Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp has utterly failed in executing these core duties. How?

  • During Kemp’s tenure, Georgia’s elections data has been breached twice. The first breach occurred in August 2016 and the second in March 2017.

  • Kemp’s office leaked voter information, including social security numbers and driver’s license data.

  • Kemp’s office failed to properly handle and process voter registrations in 2014, resulting in the loss of voter registrations for 40,000 Georgians.

  • Kemp’s office has refused to ask the State Legislature for funds to update the outdated voting systems that have received an F- rating by watchdog organizations.

  • Officials operating under the auspices of the Secretary of State wiped clean a computer server critical to a lawsuit against Georgia election officials shortly after the suit was filed.

We cannot in good conscience allow Brian Kemp to oversee another major election; especially one he is actively running in for Governor. He must (and can) be recalled so that somebody more competent, with a passion for safeguarding democracy, can run Georgia’s 2018 election. Before a recall election can take place, 778,677 Georgians must sign a petition, including 51,000 from each of the State’s 14 Congressional districts. Signatures need to be collected by December 15th. Qualified signers must be registered GA voters who were eligible to vote in the 2016 election. If enough Georgians sign the petition, the Governor would have 10 days to set a date for a special recall election, which would likely occur in late January to mid-February, 2018. The petition must be signed in person, but you can find out where at @AVoiceForAllGA on Twitter and by email. The recall ballot would simply ask whether Kemp should stay on as Secretary of State or be fired. If by simple majority the voters decide to oust Kemp, Governor Deal would appoint a replacement.
