May 22, 2017 The Call – #IndependentCommission (S.27/H.R.356)
Urge your Members of Congress to support an independent commission to investigate Russian interference into the US election and any collusion of the President’s campaign with Russia. Legislation to establish an independent of commission of outside experts is currently under consideration in both the House (H.R.356) and the Senate (S.27). While it was critical to the integrity of the FBI investigation to appoint a special counsel, the special counsel does not ensure an investigation free from political interference or produce the comprehensive report that is needed to prevent future interference by Russia or other countries. Representative Adam Schiff explained, in a video posted to Twitter, why we still need an independent commission. While most Democrats (and some Republicans) are calling for a special committee, so far Republicans have blocked the legislation. In addition to being subject to partisan politics, the current investigations by the House and Senate intelligence committees are understaffed and moving slowly. Americans deserve a full accounting and report of Russian interference in our election and any involvement of the Trump campaign. Without a full investigation and report, we risk future interference by Russia or other countries. Your Action Call your members of Congress to urge them to support (S.27/H.R.356), which would establish an independent commission on Russia’s role in the 2016 election. Talking Points
This is [NAME] and I’m a constituent in [ZIP].
I want the MoC to support (S.27/H.R.356), which establishes an independent commission that would fully investigate and report on Russian interference in our election.
The special counsel appointed by DOJ was important, but it won’t produce a comprehensive report to combat future foreign attempts to interfere in our elections.
Where does the MoC currently stand on this issue?
