Daily Call To Action: March 8th, 2017

March 8, 2017 The Call – (Day2) Vote ‘NO’ on Rosenstein for Deputy AG unless he agrees to a #SpecialProsecutor for #TrumpRussia Urge your senators to vote ‘NO’ on the nomination of Rod Rosenstein for Deputy Attorney General unless he commits to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Russian interference in our election, the Trump campaign’s ties to the Russian government and the President’s financial entanglements with Russia. Rosenstein’s confirmation hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee begins at 10:00 AM ET on Tuesday. Democrats on the Committee have stated that Rosenstein should only be confirmed if he agrees to appoint a special prosecutor. If all the Democrats on the Committee make their vote contingent on a special prosecutor and are joined by at least one Republican, the Judiciary Committee will return an unfavorable recommendation. At least one Republican on the Judiciary Committee, Lindsey Graham, has said that a special prosecutor may be necessary. It is rare but possible for the full Senate to confirm a nominee rejected in committee (e.g. Scott Pruitt as EPA head). There is a lot of Republican push-back, but Minority Leader Chuck Schumer [D-NY] argues that Trump’s weekend tweets bolster the need for a special prosecutor. A CNN/ORC poll today showed 65% of Americans, including 43% of Republicans, want a special prosecutor appointed. The American people deserve answers they can trust. It is time to ensure an investigation free from partisan politics. It is time for a special prosecutor. Your Action Call both of your senators and ask them to vote ‘NO’ on Rod Rosenstein’s nomination for Deputy Attorney General unless he agrees to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the President and Russia. Script “Hi. This is [NAME] and I’m a constituent in [ZIP]. I’m calling because I believe we need a special prosecutor to investigate the President and Russia. I want [Sen____] to vote ‘NO’ on Rod Rosenstein’s nomination as Deputy Attorney General unless he agrees to appoint one. I appreciate your time!”
