June 27, 2017 The Call – #ProtectOurCare #AHCAKills The CBO issued its score for the Senate healthcare bill on Monday and it was devastating – 22 million additional uninsured. Former President Obama said the bill is not a healthcare bill, but rather a “massive transfer of wealth from middle class and poor families” to the rich. Some Republican Senators, most notably Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), have said they will not support the bill as written– however, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is still pressuring them to flip to yes. The bill slashes Medicaid, which covers many of the disabled and poor, even more than the House legislation. Over 400,000 veterans would lose their Medicaid. Lower income people not on Medicaid would pay higher premiums for less coverage. Middle class Americans in their 50’s or 60’s would have much higher premiums, and Americans would face a 6-month waiting period before getting insurance if they have a lapse in coverage. Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood is eliminated for at least a year. Although the language of the Senate bill says people with pre-existing conditions must be covered and cannot be charged more, Senator Chris Murphy explains how the bill allows states to gut that provision, leaving people with pre-existing conditions unable to afford insurance. In addition, the CBO estimates 4 million people with employer-based coverage would also lose their coverage next year. The Loyal Opposition highlighted some of the real people whose lives would be threatened by the AHCA. #FacesOfACA Democrats should be urged to use every tactic to defeat the AHCA, including a vote-a-rama of amendments (you can submit your own amendment.) Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is imploring people that now is the critical time to stop AHCA. A high volume of calls is needed to kill the AHCA and get on with the business of fixing Obamacare. Your Action Call both your senators and tell Democratic senators to stop Senate business/use the Vote-A-Rama to stop approval of Trumpcare. Tell Republican senators that a bill that gives tax cuts to the wealthy and leaves sick and vulnerable Americans without insurance is wrong for the country. Talking Points

[IMPORTANT] Describe how the AHCA would personally impact you, your friends or family.
[Democrat senators] Trumpcare/AHCA gives the rich a tax break and is a potential death sentence for the poor and disabled. Stall Senate business to prevent its passage. Use the Vote-A-Rama to stop the bill if necessary.
[Republican senators] The draft AHCA is a tax cut for the rich that fails to protect the American people including the poor, the disabled and people with pre-existing conditions.
[Republican senators] Any plan that benefits the wealthy while leaving sick or vulnerable people without insurance is wrong for the American people.
