Daily Call To Action: June 13th, 2017

June 12, 2017 The Call – Reject #Trumpcare, #GOPCare #DemandHearings The Senate is now working on its own version of the draconian Trumpcare bill (also known as AHCA). Among other things, the House bill would result in over 20 million additional uninsured, permit skyrocketing premiums for pre-existing conditions and allow lifetime and annual caps that would often make insurance useless when needed the most. It would also gut Medicaid, with devastating impacts on children, the disabled and the poor. Senate Republicans are working to sabotage the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and are developing their own version of the AHCA in secrecy from even most Republicans, which they plan to push through without any hearings or amendments in late June. Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) blasted Republicans for not holding hearings on their still secret healthcare plan. The next two weeks are critical for stopping the Republicans from giving a tax cut to the wealthy be gutting health care for everyone else. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is imploring people that now is the critical time to stop Trumpcare. A high volume of calls is needed to kill Trumpcare and get on with the business of fixing the ACA. Your Action Call both your senators and tell Democratic senators to stop Senate business until there are hearings on Trumpcare/AHCA. Tell Republican senators to vote no on any bill that cuts Medicaid, allows higher charges for pre-existing conditions or allows caps. Talking Points

  • This is [NAME] and I’m a constituent in [ZIP].

  • [IMPORTANT] Describe how the AHCA would personally impact you, your friends or family.

  • [Democrat senators] It isn’t acceptable to pass Trumpcare/AHCA without hearings. Stall Senate business until hearings are scheduled.

  • [Republican senators] Vote no any healthcare plan that cuts Medicaid or allows higher charges for pre-existing conditions or allows caps on coverage.

  • [Republican senators] Any plan that benefits the wealthy while leaving sick or vulnerable people without insurance is wrong for the American people.
