June 11, 2017 The Call – AG Sessions’ testimony must be OPEN not CLOSED Last week, former FBI director James Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee that after President Trump asked him to drop the Flynn investigation, Attorney General Jeff Sessions never responded to Comey’s request to keep Trump from meeting with him alone again. Comey also hinted there was additional classified information regarding Sessions that would have forced his recusal, and reports are that the information is a previously undisclosed third meeting Sessions had with Russian Ambassador Kislyak during the 2016 campaign. Serious questions have also been raised as to whether Sessions violated his recusal by participating in Comey’s firing. Seth Abramson has an excellent Twitter thread discussing the many questions that Sessions needs to be asked in a public hearing. Sessions has cancelled his scheduled appearances in public hearings before the House and Senate appropriations committees this week, where it was expected he would be asked about these issues. Instead, he announced he will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee, a move apparently aimed at testifying in closed hearings. Many Senate Democrats have called for Sessions’ testimony to be public, a decision that will be made by the Intelligence Committee. The ACLU said there is absolutely no reason to have a closed hearing, which would be “a gut punch to the millions of Americans committed to an open …democracy.” Your Action Call your two senators and ask that they insist Sessions’ testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday be public, not a closed session. It looks like Attorney General Sessions is trying to avoid public testimony about his recusal on Russia issues and his meetings with Russian officials.
After Comey’s public testimony, the American people deserve to hear public testimony from AG Sessions.
A closed hearing will undermine the trust of the American people.
Please advocate for the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing with AG Sessions to be an open hearing.
