July 18, 2017 The Call – #VoterRegistrationAct #VoterSuppression It was recently confirmed that the real intent of the Presidential Commission on Voter Integrity, led by Kris Kobach and VP Mike Pence, is to make it harder for Americans to register to vote. Kobach, the Secretary of State of Kansas, has been dubbed the “king of voter suppression” by the ACLU. Voter suppression issues are bad enough in the U.S. that U.N. human rights chief Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein met with a U.S. delegation to discuss voter suppression and the communities that have been targeted. Longstanding voter suppression efforts, and now this fraud commission, have done significant damage to our democracy. While organizations like the ACLU, The Campaign Legal Center, Legal Defense Fund and others tackle voter suppression from the legal angle, we can fight voter suppression and promote voting rights by working with our representatives in Congress. A few weeks ago, the Automatic Voter Registration Act of 2017 was introduced in both the House and the Senate. The bill stipulates that the right to vote is a fundamental right of citizens and that it is the responsibility of the State and Federal government to ensure that every eligible citizen is registered to vote. We need to let our Senators and Representatives know that we support these bills and that we want them to sign on as a co-sponsor. The 2018 midterm elections will be a crucial turning point for #TheResistance to reject the current direction of the country. Minimizing voter suppression tactics and expanding voter rights for eligible Americans is a priority and necessary for the defense of American democracy. If you are in Washington, D.C., there is a 10am #RespectMyVote Rally to protest the first meeting of Kobach’s Commission. The Loyal Opposition encourages you to attend and peacefully protest the Commission’s goals. Your Action Call your Representative and both Senators and tell them you are in favor of the Automatic Voter Registration Act. Ask if they will sign on as a co-sponsor. Talking Points
This is NAME and I’m a constituent in ZIP.
I am deeply concerned about voter suppression and particularly the Commission on Voter Integrity led by Kris Kobach.
I believe that the right to vote is a fundamental right of U.S. citizens and that instead of working to suppress voters, we should instead ensure that every eligible citizen is registered to vote.
Does [Rep/Sen] support the Automatic Voter Registration Act and if so, will he/she sign on as a co-sponsor?
