The Call – #ProtectDreamers Following a bipartisan meeting with Trump in which he said he would support a bipartisan DACA deal, Senators reached an agreement to protect Dreamers while providing for additional border security and some limitations on immigration. Immigration hardliners representing Trump’s base, with Stephen Miller as their advocate, pressed Trump to reject the deal and demanded impossibly severe conditions, including full funding for a border wall. Trump’s obscene and racist rejection of the bipartisan deal, which has the support of almost all Democrats and many Republicans, has endangered the fate of the deal and may result in a government shutdown as early as Friday. Despite Trump’s objections, many Democrats and Republicans believe the deal would be passed by Congress if brought for a vote. GOP leadership said in December that Congress would hold a vote on DACA if negotiators reached a deal, and they must be held to that agreement or be held responsible for any government shutdown. Ending DACA and leaving the Dreamers subject to deportation would be a cruel betrayal of young people raised as Americans. All Members of Congress must demand a vote on the bipartisan deal to protect the Dreamers now. Your Action Call your three members of Congress and tell them to demand a vote on the bipartisan DACA agreement or be held responsible for any government shutdown. Talking Points
This is [NAME] and I’m a constituent in [ZIP].
I urge [Sen/Rep____] to demand a vote on the bipartisan DACA agreement or be held responsible for any government shutdown.
Breaking faith with the Dreamers or holding them hostage to funding for a useless wall would be cruel and un-American.
