February 7, 2017 The Call Urge your members of Congress to co-sponsor legislation introduced in the House and Senate which would prevent Steve Bannon (or any other person whose responsibilities are political) from serving on the National Security Council (NSC). Presidents traditionally make a point of carefully avoiding any appearance of partisan politics on the NSC to ensure that national security policy is separated from domestic politics and that decisions to deploy the military are not tainted by political considerations. As Sen. John McCain has said, the inclusion of Bannon on the NSC is a “radical departure” from the past. It is particularly troubling to have Bannon on the NSC given his former role as the CEO of Breitbart and his status as an icon of the alt-right, which is permeated with white supremacism. Your Action Call your two Senators to urge them to co-sponsor S.291 and call your House Member to urge him/her to co-sponsor H.R.804. If any of them are already a co-sponsor of the legislation, call anyways and let them know you support their effort. *See below links to determine if your member of Congress is co-sponsoring the legislation. List of Senators who are currently sponsoring S.291 List of House Members who are currently sponsoring H.R.804 Scripts For members who are co-sponsors – “Hi. My name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent in zip code [ZIP]. I’m calling to thank [Sen/Rep____] for co-sponsoring [S.291/H.R.804] which would prevent Steven Bannon from serving on the National Security Council. I believe it is vital that national security policy, and especially decisions to use our military, be separated from domestic politics. Steve Bannon’s role on the NSC is especially troubling to me given his status as an icon of the alt-right. Thank you very much for your time.” For members who are NOT co-sponsors – “Hi. My name is [NAME] and I am a constituent in zip code [ZIP].
