August 23, 2017 The Call –#DefendDACA #DefendDREAMers #NoBanNoWall In 2012, President Obama issued an executive order (DACA) allowing undocumented migrants (Dreamers) brought to the US as children to obtain work permits and remain in the US without fear of deportation. Because they have spent most of their lives in the U.S., the Dreamers are as American as Apple. On Tuesday, it was reported Trump is threatening to terminate DACA unless Congress funds his border wall. Trump’s anti-immigrant cruelty was on full display at his Phoenix rally where he made clear he plans to pardon the notoriously brutal former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was recently convicted in federal court. Bipartisan legislation, the Dream Act, has been introduced in the Senate and the House, which would formalize protection for the Dreamers so they were not subject to the whims of a Trump executive order. Large majorities of American voters, including 73% of Trump voters favor protecting the Dreamers, and rescinding DACA would have devastating economic effects. Your Action Call your Members of Congress and urge them to support the Dream Act. Talking Points
